12.19.10:  Collecting the Medicare Incentive Stimulus Payment

Medicare Stimulus is Bonus Cash For You 

The Medicare Stimulus is extra cash in your pocket. The government is giving away up to $44,000 per doctor if you use certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) computer software such as ChiroSuiteEHR or ChiroPadEMR  and demonstrate meaningful use of that EHR system. 

The Medicare Stimulus is based on how much Medicare actually pays you for the year. For example, if Medicare pays you $10,000 in regular payments for that year, Medicare will send you a bonus check for approximately $7,500. In other words for that year, Medicare will have paid you a total of $17,500. The calculation of the bonus is based on approximately 75% of what Medicare paid for the services you provided. The bonus is NOT based on how much you paid for the EHR software.

During 2011, the maximum Medicare stimulus bonus will be $18,000. Medicare will continue paying bonuses for between 3 and 5 years. The combined totals from all the years for the Medicare incentive is capped at $44,000.

If you treat Medicare patients, make sure you can collect this free money. It is cash in your pocket, but only if you use certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) computer software such as ChiroSuiteEHR or ChiroPadEMR  and demonstrate meaningful use of that EHR system.

Non-Participating Doctors Qualify!!!

The official government website of CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) specifically states that Eligible Professionals (EP) qualify. It specifically states

                “An EP that is not a Medicare participating physician or supplier, but still submits claims to Medicare for Part B physician fee schedule services on behalf of Medicare patients to whom they furnish services would be eligible for Medicare EHR incentive payments. When the EP successfully registers and demonstrates meaningful use of certified EHR technology, the calculation of the EP’s incentive payment will reflect claims for all the services reimbursed under the Part B physician fee schedule regardless of whether the EP accepted assignment on those claims or not.  For more information about the Medicare EHR incentive program, please visit http://www.cms.gov/EHRIncentivePrograms.”

EHR Certification - What It Means

The Federal government created specific guidelines for the functional evaluation of Electronic Health Record systems. These guidelines require several different functions and features, including encryption, security, and unique patient items.

The National Institute for Standards and Testing (NIST) established the test protocols under the direction of the Office of the National Coordinator from the US Department of Health. The government then appointed specific testing companies to examine the EHR programs. Any doctor that is using certified programs is eligible for the Medicare stimulus bonus, provided that the documentation and billing is done correctly. Life Systems Software submitted ChiroSuiteEHR and ChiroPadEMR to the testing and was among the first Chiropractic specific EHR programs to receive the certification. Any doctor that is using either of these programs is now eligible for the Medicare stimulus bonus, provided that the documentation and billing is done correctly.

ChiroSuiteEHR and ChiroPadEMR, which met the requirements for modular certification, are specifically designed by a Chiropractor for the Chiropractic profession. ChiroSuiteEHR is a full electronic health record (EHR) system. ChiroPadEMR focuses on SOAP documentation and narrative reports.

These EHR Modules, ChiroSuiteEHR v 16.0 and ChiroPadEMR v 16.0, are 2011/2012 compliant and have been certified by Drummond Group, an ONC-ATCB in accordance with the applicable certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. This certification does not represent an endorsement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or guarantee the receipt of incentive payments. ChiroSuiteEHR v 16.0 and ChiroPadEMR v 16.0 were certified on 11/11/2010. ChiroSuiteEHR v 16.0 has certificate number 11112010-2619-1 and ChiroPadEMR v 16.0 has certificate number 11112010-2620-1.

 Registration for EHR Certification

Registration for the Medicare EHR Incentive begins on January 3, 2011. On 1-3-2011 go to http://www.cms.gov/EHRIncentivePrograms/20_RegistrationandAttestation.asp and follow the directions.

Items Required for Registration and to Qualify for Payment

• NPI number
• Enrollment record in Medicare’s PECOS (Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System)
• Registration done on 1-3-2011 or as soon thereafter as possible
• Use of certified EHR software such as ChiroSuiteEHR or ChiroPadEMR
• Proper use of PQRI codes in addition to the standard CPT codes on the CMS-1500 claim form

ChiroSuiteEHR and ChiroPadEMR Receive ONC-ATCB Certification by Drummond Group

ChiroSuiteEHR and ChiroPadEMR produced by Life Systems Software received modular certification on November 11, 2010 deeming the electronic health record (EHR) software capable of enabling providers to meet the Stage 1 meaningful use measures required to qualify for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Tested and certified under the Drummond Group's Electronic Health Records Office of the National Coordinator Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB) program, the EHR software is 2011/2012 compliant in accordance with the criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. 

Dr. Paul Bindell, President of Life Systems Software, stated that “after 19 years of producing Chiropractic specific software, this is a critical step and accomplishment for Life Systems Software. It enables us to provide our clients with the ability to achieve and demonstrate meaningful use resulting in their ability to qualify for incentive funds created under ARRA, such as the up to $44,000 Medicare stimulus.”

CHIROPRACTORS QUALIFY For the Medicare Stimulus!!!

Chiropractors are eligible to receive the Medicare Stimulus, up to $44,000, according to Dr. Paul Bindell, president of Life Systems Software. After reading the 864 page Final Rule for Meaningful Use, Dr. Bindell notes that it is clear that Chiropractors qualify for the Medicare bonus income. On 7-13-10 the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology (HIT) issued the Final Rule for Meaningful Use of certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Dr. Bindell states that the Rule visibly includes Chiropractors as Eligible Providers, and clearly provides exemptions from those Meaningful Use items based on scope of practice. For example, any doctor that generates fewer than 100 prescriptions for medication is exempt from the meaningful use requirement to report the percentage of electronic prescriptions that had been given. To qualify for the maximum stimulus income, you must have certified EHR software in place by the end of 2010.

CAVEAT EMPTOR: The Medicare Stimulus requires certified EHR software in use in your practice generating the necessary reports by the end of this year. But, as this is being written, Dr. Bindell points out that the ONC announced that currently THERE IS NO CERTIFIED EHR SOFTWARE because the government has not yet authorized any entity to give the necessary certification. If anyone is claiming that they already have the certification, it is NOT true. The ONC is now taking applications from companies that want to become software certification agents. Qualifying EHR Certification will happen only later this year.

02.28.10:  Backup Your ChiroSuiteEHR Data – Protect Your Practice

Your patient information is critical to your practice. If you do not have multiple backups of your ChiroSuiteEHR data, your practice is at great risk and may be destroyed if your computer crashes and your data is lost.

Your support agreement with Life Systems Software REQUIRES daily backups of the ChiroSuiteEHR data. For each day of the week, there should be a separate and distinct backup. Each backup can be in a different media (USB flash drive, rewritable CD, copy to another computer, RAID array, external hard drive, on-line service, etc.), or it can be the same type of media each day. If it is the same type of media, this means that you have at least 5 different copies (5 USB flash drives, or 5 rewritable CDs, etc.) NEVER DEPEND ON A SINGLE BACKUP!!! At least once per week, a current backup should be taken to and kept in a safe location outside your office.

All users must be logged out and both ChiroOffice and ChiroPadEMR must be closed, with the Attendant Bar closed, not only from every workstation but also on the server while you are backing up the database! If the program is left open when trying to make a backup, the backup will either NOT be made or the data could be corrupted and lost.

Each backup should include a copy of the ENTIRE Data folder with ALL its files. This includes all the patient information from both ChiroOffice and ChiroPadEMR. The data directory is usually found on your server computer at C:\Program Files\Chirosoft\Data.  If you use Paraphrase in ChiroPadEMR, and especially if you have customized Paraphrase, also backup the Paraphrase directory. The Paraphrase file is located at C:\Program Files\Chirosoft\Paraphrase. If you can not locate either the data or paraphrase folders on your system, then you may have a special configuration for your in office network. Should this be the case, call support at 973-625-3716 option 3 for assistance in locating these files.

It is with pleasure that we announce the release of another update to the ChiroSuite programs of ChiroOffice and ChiroPad.

If the you are currently on version 14.0 or later, simply click on the appropriate version 14.2. If your office is still using version 12, or older, please call support for instructions to get updated to the latest version.

This update requires a password. Passwords will be given only to those offices whose support agreements are current. In the event that you need to renew/update your technical support agreement, please call 800-543-3001 and we will be glad to assist you.

From the Training screen, you can also select Release Notes from the menu on the left. The Release Notes give you a detailed list of the changes, enhancements and new features included in this and previous updates.

10.16.08:  ChiroSuite Training on Thursday November 13

The next ChiroSuite webinar training program is scheduled for Thursday November 13, 2008. The ChiroOffice management program is from 9 AM to 1 PM Eastern time. The ChiroPad documentation is taught from 2 PM to 6 PM. The webinar is restricted to a maximum of 15 offices for each session, so be sure to reserve your space now. Registration forms have been emailed to all active clients. If you have not received a registration form, please send an email showing your correct email address to administration@LifeSystemsSoftware.com. Be sure to include your name, your clinic name, your mailing address and your phone number so we can accurately confirm that you are an active client.

12.15.07:  2008 ChiroSuite Webinar Training Schedule In News Tab

2008 Web Training Schedule Posted

The 2008 ChiroSuite, ChiroPad, and ChiroOffice training schedule is now posted on our website. Select the "News" button and click on "Events". If you have not received a registration form via email, call 800-543-3001 and request that one be emailed to you. The trainings are web based.

In order to attend the trainings, you MUST meet the following requirements:
1. You must be a client/owner of Life Systems Software products.
2. You must register in advance. The www.GoToMeeting.com log in will be emailed only to those that have registered in advance.
3. It is essential that you have a high speed internet connection, such as cable, DSL, FIOS, or greater. A dial up connection can not handle the connection.
4. Attendance is limited to 14 log ins. If you want more than one computer in your office to log in, then there will be a fee for each additional log in.
5. If you will have more than one person from your staff attending the webinar, it is your responsibility to make sure that you have a suffient number of telephone extensions or a speakerphone in place so that each staff member can hear and participate.
6. Once everyone is logged in for the Webinar training, it is critical that all phones be muted so that background noise in your office does not disrupt or interfere with the training.

08.21.07:  Life Systems Software Supports Troops in Iraq

U.S. troops in Iraq, and wherever they are around the world, benefit from the support they receive from home. Yaakov (Jack) Bindell, the son of Dr. Paul Bindell and a member of the Life Systems team, is a Rabbi and Chaplain in the NJ Air National Guard. Chaplain Rabbi Bindell has recently returned home from a tour of the Middle East where he had a profound influence on the morale of the troops. Once again Life Systems Software will participate in the Florida Chiropractic Association convention at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee (Orlando area).  Dealing with Chronic Pain

Practitioners are currently experiencing an increase in chronic pain in epidemic proportions. Often these chronic issues though real and genuinely painful, show no anatomic or “physical” findings upon physical examination and diagnostic testing. When Western medicine fails to relieve chronic pain, science turns special attention to the most important weapon that has the ability to heal, or destroy, the body… “The Mind”

Perceptions and attitudes shape our reality, what and how we think has a major impact on our physical and mental health. Stress, for instance, compromises the immune system which leads to illness and disease. By helping our patients eliminate their stress and anxiety, we can change the outcome of their recovery at the cellular level.

Pain causes stress and anxiety. When it becomes chronic the body becomes locked in a hyperactive state of sympathetic innervations causing exaggerated sharp painful responses. When out of control reflexes are on a perpetual red alert, they lead the brain to misinterpret even the most minor stimuli as painful -- causing the patient more stress and thereby creating a vicious never-ending cycle.

Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT developed by Gary Craig is a powerful revolutionary healing tool in the relief of chronic pain, anxiety, stress. Yet this technique, is very simple to learn and implement, and shows extremely fast results. EFT energy technique works by balancing the meridian system. Electric currents run through the body sending messages to the brain to control all bodily functions. Negative emotions disrupt or block the current -- interfering with healing. Unlike acupuncture which uses needles, EFT uses the tips if your fingers on targeted acupuncture points while the patient focuses on the source of their stress. Watch in amazement as the pain intensity decreases and their stress or anxiety becomes neutralized. Using EFT with my patients has dramatically changed my practice with about an 85% success rate.

To learn how to implement EFT into your practice, please attend my workshop, or allow me to host a workshop in your area. Change the way you treat your patients forever with remarkable results. This technique is very effective with Parkinson’s, Fibromyalgia, and back pain.
