NOTE:  If your Pocket PC battery drained down and cleared the memory but the desktop computer software is already installed, proceed to the section entitled Cairo software installation.

First-time Installation Instructions

We like to provide you with a full service installation for your initial installation to ensure all settings are correct on your computer.  Please call for installation assistance at 407.332.6085.

If you prefer to re-install the software without our assistance, please follow these steps.

ChiroPad/ChiroOffice
1)  Confirm your operating system.  Operating systems supported: Windows 98se, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.  The Pocket PC's use USB ports that are not supported by Windows NT 4.0 or pre-Windows 98se operating systems.

2)  Install ChiroPad and/or ChiroOffice from the CD-ROM on server and all workstations.  We recommend all factory default choices, such that the installation is self-documented.

3)  Install any supplementary updates from our web site at http://www.4chiros.com.

Paraphrase
1)  Install Paraphrase on the server from the CD-ROM.  Paraphrase may be on its own CD-ROM, or may be included on the Cairo CD-ROM or ChiroPad/ChiroOffice CD-ROM.  We recommend all factory default choices, such that the installation is self-documented.

Cairo for the Pocket PC
Cairo users who have previously used ChiroPad need to run these brief grooming utilities.  It is fine to run them more than once if you aren't sure if you even need to run them.  There are some brief utilities for the DESKTOP and then you can run the Pocket PC DEVICE installation.

DESKTOP UTILITIES prior to Cairo installation:
Start->Programs->Chiro Suite->Database32 - run the following Public Database utilities:

1) Trim CP_DSD type.  This is an option in the Action dropdown combobox menu of Database 32.

2)  Create ActiveSync findings.  This is also an option in the Action dropdown combobox menu of Database 32.

3)  Refresh factory Exam Verbiage.  This is also an option in the Action dropdown combobox menu of Database 32.

4)  Run the "Active Patients" utility by pressing the button on the main window of Database 32.  This is only necessary if you have more than 3500 patients indicated as "Active".  However, please adjust the # of months to 36 months.  It is typical to have 500 to 1500 "Active" patients, even for long-time users with 10,000 patients in the computer.

Pocket PC DEVICE installation
We assume that you have installed the factory Pocket PC software that was packaged by its manufacturer.  If you haven't, then from the CD-ROM distributed with your Pocket PC, run the factory installation procedures to install ActiveSync and Microsoft Outlook. After this is complete, check the About box of ActiveSync to ensure that the version 3.1 Build 9587 or higher. New Pocket PC's ship with ActiveSync 3.5 or higher.  The installation process is supported by the Pocket PC manufacturer, i.e., Dell, Compaq, Casio & Hewlett Packard. We depend on a working Active Sync installation prior to installing Cairo.

Cairo software installation

1)  Delete ALL partnerships in the desktop computer's ActiveSync 3.5 window.

  • Disconnect the Pocket PC from the sync cradle or sync cable.
  • In the ActiveSync window click on ‘File’ > ‘Delete Partnership’, click ‘Yes’ to confirm the partnership deletion.

2)  Place the Pocket PC in the cradle and connect the Pocket PC as a Guest.  DO NOT establish a partnership at this time.

3)  Run the CairoSetup.exe installation from the CD-ROM on your desktop computer, or from a web download posted on this site.  Accept all factory defaults during the installation.  If you are re-installing, you should choose the "repair" installation, i.e., a "re-installation".  Passwords vary from release-to-release.  Contact technical support by phone or e-mail if you do not know or forget the password.

4)  Remove the device from the cradle.  Place the device back in the cradle.

5)  The ActiveSync window will appear on your desktop computer.  Accept the factory default settings in Microsoft ActiveSync 3.5 to establish a partnership.

6)  Import the cs_pub.mdb & and Paraphrase.mdb files from the desktop to the device.  This procedure is described in the Import Database help document.

7)  Start the Cairo application on your device.

8)  From the lower left-hand menu (Fall 2001 and later releases:  touch & hold the Home icon) and choose Refresh Local Verbiage.

Congratulations, you are now ready to start using Cairo!
